Robert Michael Smyrl, (Mike Smyrl) was born in Jacksonville, Cherokee County, Texas on September 2, 1946. His family moved to the City of Pasadena in 1950 and Mike attended the Deer Park School District graduating from Deer Park High School in 1965. Mike's formal education began at San Jacinto College graduating with an A.A. degree in 1967; the University of Houston graduating with a B.B.A. in 1969 and South Texas College of Law with Honors having received the E.E. Townes Award for scholastic excellence. Mike's law school education was briefly interrupted with six months of active duty in the Texas Army National Guard completing his six years of service in 1976.
Mike began his legal career in general private practice of law in September of 1973 and has been engaged in private practice since being licensed. Mike served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Jacinto City. He has also served as a Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Deer Park in excess of twenty years.
Mike has been a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas since 1992. The Bar College is made up of lawyers who complete twice the minimum continuing hours of legal education as set by the State Supreme Court to keep their skills at peak levels. Less than 6 percent of Texas lawyers qualify to be members of the College.
Mike began to specialize in the areas of Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law and has been certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in these areas of the law since December of 1987. Mike has litigated and argued cases in District Courts throughout the State of Texas; the Court of Appeals of the State of Texas and the Supreme Court of the State of Texas.
